Naïla Kettaneh-Kunigk is pleased to announce the exhibition of
Jean-Marc Nahas
”Douces Violences” - 2005-2008
The exhibition will be on view from October 16th through November 29th 2008 in the new space, Gefinor center, Block E.
The show is open Monday through Friday from 11am until 7pm, Saturday from 11am until 5pm.
Witness of his time, Jean-Marc’s work is influenced by the events that took place in the Middle East region. This display, midway between snapshots, storyboards and paintings is a somehow humoristic adaptation of moments of the ordinary and unsustainable lives of a tortured and anecdotic society that undergoes dramatic events.
One of the main characteristics of his work is the speed one can feel in his drawings, which have sequential and cinematographic qualities.
Born in Beirut in 1963, Jean-Marc studied in Paris at the École des Beaux arts and lived in Montréal from which he came back 10 years ago.
Among others in 2000, he had a solo exhibition titled “Beyrouth mon amour” both in Montréal and Beirut. In 2005, he exhibited at the Centre Culturel Français “Jets d’encres” which body of work is also present in the actual show. In 2006, “Catastrophe” was displayed at Zicco House in collaboration with UMAM; this exhibition was focused on the war Israel started against Lebanon and its horrendous consequences.
He had solo shows with Naïla Kettaneh Kunigk’s collaboration both at ESA and BERYTECH.
His work was regularly exhibited at the Salon d’Automne at the Musée Sursock as well as in Dubaï Belgium, Germany, Jordan and Kuweit. His paintings are present in numerous private collections.
