Artist Statement
In this body of work, I explore the use of textures on sculptures which are in between traditional vessels and dresses. These female forms are used as a means of exploring the variety of textures that can be imprinted on clay. I enjoy working in clay and like to use it as an expressive material.
I use a variety of fabrics from netting to lace and any fabric or other objects that has texture, to imprint onto the clay. Fabric as well as clay when extended leads to an amazing richness of surface quality. In addition, I enhance the surface with a subtle color of oxides and in all cases showing the naked clay.
