The painter Marie Khoury was born on December 15, 1965 in the village of Al Bireh in Chouf.

In 1983, during the sad events of the Lebanese civil war and the battles in the mountains, Marie was seriously injured; she was treated but didn’t get great results. She was then turned quadriplegic, suffering from paralysis of the four limbs. Her dreams of specializing in engineering have gone for ever. Now she has to go everywhere in a wheelchair and must turn a new page by treating her destiny with positivity and perseverance in a struggle at all times.

She went through a long period of care, suffering, and pain, at the same time she cultivated the passion of her life: the field of art, drawing and painting in order to give shape and color to her dreams destroyed by this sad war.

In 1985, she started in the field of Indian ink painting for a year and a half with Professor Tony Khadra. She then perfected her talent by joining the Academy of Fine Arts of Michelangelo in 1989 with Assaad Renno and obtained her diploma in 1992.

She has participated in several local and international exhibitions, including:

A permanent exhibition at the Beit Chabab Institute where the artist lives.

The summer exhibition at Deir El Qamar, in which her paintings are exhibited and that for ten years.

2006 - Private personal exhibition at the Metropolitan Palace Hotel.
2011 - Exhibition "Madness" at the UNESCO Palace in Beirut - Lebanon.
2013 - Exhibition at the Exodus gallery, entitled "La plume dans la main de Marie Khoury".
2015 - UNESCO Palace - Beirut - January.
2016 - Marie Khoury has participated in international exhibitions, including the “The Other Face” exhibition in the United States of America, and in exhibitions in Turkey, Colombia, and France.
2016 - Exhibition organized by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark the memory of the Lebanese who died in the Titanic accident.
2018 - Ishtar's sixth international exhibition at Coral Beach in Hamra.
2018 - International art exhibition - Nostalgia - International art fair - Municipality of the village Boxota.

Aley's art gallery, in which she participated for 6 years, and includes artists from all Arab countries.

Marie Khoury relies on the techniques of drawing armrests and provides no way to challenge her handicap. Painting is the constant struggle of his life.

Her watercolors and oil paintings are inspired by nature and man in all its specters and the coloring of human feelings; her paintings embody the cry of freedom and resilience that beats in his veins to be reborn, like the phoenix the legendary bird of the Phoenicians.

En 1983, durant les tristes événements de la guerre civile libanaise et les batailles dans la montagne, Marie a été grièvement blessée, elle fut soignée, mais hélas sans grands résultats. Elle s’est vue alors tétraplégique, atteinte de paralysie des quatre membres. Ses rêves de se spécialiser dans le domaine de l'ingénierie se sont éteints à jamais. Elle doit alors continuer le voyage dans une chaise roulante et commencer une nouvelle page et une nouvelle naissance en traitant son destin avec positivité et persévérance dans une lutte de tous les instants.

Elle traversa une longue période de soins, de souffrances et de douleurs, en même temps elle cultiva la passion de sa vie : le domaine de l’art, le dessin et la peinture afin de donner formes et couleurs à ses rêves détruits par cette triste guerre.

En 1985, elle débuta dans le domaine de la peinture, à l'encre de Chine pendant un an et demi avec le professeur Tony Khadra. Elle a ensuite perfectionné son talent en s'affiliant à l'Académie des Beaux-arts de Michel-Ange en 1989 avec Assaad Renno et a obtenu son diplôme en 1992.

Elle a participé à plusieurs expositions locales et internationales, notamment:

Une exposition permanente à l'Institut Beit Chabab où l'artiste vit.

L'exposition d'été à Deir El Qamar, dans laquelle ses peintures sont exposées il y a une dizaine d'années.
2006 - Exposition personnelle privée au Metropolitan Palace Hotel.
2011 - Exposition "Madness" au Palais de l'UNESCO à Beyrouth - Liban.
2013 - Exposition à la galerie Exode, intitulée "La plume dans la main de Marie Khoury".
2015 - Palais de l'UNESCO - Beyrouth - Janvier.
2016 - Marie Khoury a participé à des expositions internationales, dont l'exposition «The Other Face» aux États-Unis d'Amérique, et à des expositions en Turquie, en Colombie et en France.
2016 - Exposition organisée par le Ministère libanais des Affaires Etrangères pour marquer la mémoire des Libanais morts dans l'accident du Titanic.
2018 - La sixième exposition internationale d'Ishtar à Coral Beach à Hamra.
2018 - Exposition internationale d'art - Nostalgie - Foire internationale d'art - Municipalité du village Boxota.
Galerie d'art d'Aley, à laquelle elle a participé pendant 6 ans, et comprend des artistes de tous les pays arabes.

Marie Khoury s'appuie sur les techniques de dessin des accoudoirs (atèles) et ne fournit aucun moyen de contester son handicap. La peinture est la lutte constante de sa vie.

Ses peintures à l'eau et à l'huile se distinguent par sa simulation de la nature et de l'homme dans tous ses spectres et la coloration des sentiments humains ; ses peintures incarnent le cri de la liberté et de la résilience qui bat dans ses veines pour renaître, comme le phénix l'oiseau de légende des Phéniciens.

في بلدة البيرة - الشوف ولدت الرسامة ماري خوري في ١٥ كانون الاول ١٩٦٥. خلال الحرب اللبنانية، وتحديدا خلال معارك الجبل عام ١٩٨٣ أصيبت بشكل بليغ ادى الى اصابتها بشلل رباعي، وانطفأت أحلام الفتاة العشرينية التي كانت تخطط للدخول إلى الجامعة والتخصص في مجال الهندسة. فكان القرار في إكمال رحلة العمر على كرسي متحرك، لتفتح صفحة جديدة على عمر جديد وولادة جديدة بالتعاطي مع قدرها بإيجابية ومثابرة ونضال.

فصول عديدة من المعاناة والألم عبرتها ماري خوري لكنها أتقنت سر الحياة فاختارت مجال الرسم لتلوين أحلامها التي خربشتها الحرب.

عام ١٩٨٥ تلقت علومها الأولى في مجال الرسم بطريقة التنقيط بالحبر الصيني لمدة سنة ونصف على يد الاستاذ طوني خضرا. وصقلت موهبتها لاحقا، من خلال الإنتساب إلى أكاديمية مايكل انجلو للفنون الجميلة عام ١٩٨٩ لصاحبها الفنان اسعد رنو وتخرجت منها عام ١٩٩٢.

شاركت في عدة معارض محلية وعالمية ابرزها:

معرض دائم في معهد بيت شباب حيث تقيم فيه منذ اصابته بالشلل الرباعي الذي يقام سنويا.

المعرض الفردي الخاص في فندق متروبوليتان بالاس عام ٢٠٠٦.

معرض صيفيات دير القمر الذي تعرض فيه لوحاتها منذ  حوالي عشرة اعوام.

معرض "جنون" في قصر الاونيسكو في بيروت--لبنان عام ٢٠١١.

معرض غاليري إكزود بعنوان"الريشة في يد ماري خوري" في ١٢ آب ٢٠١٣ ولاقى شهرة وانتشارا واسعين.

معرض من تنظيم وزارة الخارجية اللبنانية عام ٢٠١٦ تخليداً لذكرى اللبنانيين الذين لاقوا حتفهم في سفينة التايتانيك.

شاركت خوري في معارض عالمية منها معرض" الوجه الآخر" في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية عام ٢٠١٦، ومعارض في كل من تركيا وكولومبيا وفرنسا.

معرض الفن التشكيلي في عاليه الذي شاركت فيه على مدى ٦ سنوات ويضم فنانين من كل الدول العربية.

معرض عشتار الدولي السادس في ١٠ تشرين الأول عام ٢٠١٨ في  كورال بيتش في الحمرا.

تعتمد ماري خوري في تقنيات الرسم على المسند الذراعي (Atel) ولا توفر وسيلة لتتحدى اصابتها بالشلل الرباعي. فالرسم عندها نضال حياتيها المستمر.

وتتميز لوحاتها المائية والزيتية بمحاكاتها للطبيعة والانسان بكل اطيافه وتلوين مشاعر الإنسان إضافة إلى لوحات تجسد صرخات الحرية التي تنبض في عروقها لتولد من جديد مثل طائر الفينيف.
