Who
is Artist Fadi Matar
“Reflections”
is a body of work that revolves between the figurative
and the abstract. The artist portrays here a society
that is eagerly endeavoring to look good, when in
reality; truth shows that the people forming it
are angry and hurt.
The continuous dripping throughout the canvases
resembles to the shades of places and environments
in which the figures are integrated. The faces and
silhouettes emerge with their rich textures and
lines from what seemingly looks like handprints.
The forms are then defined with clear yet quick
dark strokes.
Monotone stripes delimit the paintings creating
a cinematographic view in which the artist guides
the eyes of the receptor to the essence of his work
forcing him not to look away. The contrast between
getting lost in the flowing techniques of fluid
acrylic that manages to find its way in the painting
and the defined thick masses of color on the canvases
creates a unique experience that makes you ponder
upon Fadi Matar’s work.
Born in Lebanon in 1961, Fadi Matar graduated from
the Fine Arts Institute at the Lebanese University
in 1990.
He has had more than four solo shows in Lebanon
and Germany and has participated in many collective
exhibitions.
He
is currently professor of Fine Arts at both the
Lebanese University and the Lebanese American University.
