is certainly the Pop Music Genius of the beginning
of the twenty first century. His first album «
Life in Cartoon Motion », was sold for more
than 6 million copies throughout the planet and
his latest album “The Boy who Knew too Much” released
in September 2009 with such titles as We are Golden,
Blame it on Girls, Rain, Dr. John, etc is being
acclaimed worldwide.After an outstanding performance
in 2008 in Beirut Downtown, Mika’s public is earnestly
waiting for him in his country of birth to interpret
in the magnificent frame of the Baalbek Roman Temples
his biggest hits and to present his sensational
new album. A memorable evening for his fans of all

TWO JAZZ CONCERTS IN ONE NIGHT

Kevin Mahogany has proved to be the quintessential
jazz vocalist. With eleven CD's as a leader and
quite a few as a sideman, he has been described
by the Newsweek as "the standout jazz vocalist
of his generation". His style is unmistakable,
elegant and supple. The 2010 tour is a tribute to
John Coltrane. The quintet includes Tony Lakatos
(tenor saxophone) – Thomas Ruckert (piano) – Henning
A. Gailing (Bass) – Sangoma Everett (Drums)
Odean
Pope is the winner of "Best Tenor Saxophone
Player" at the North Sea Jazz Festival. He
is considered the Philadelphia's founding father
of jazz saxophone, composer, arranger and educator.
In 1977, Odean founded a saxophone choir formatted
with nine saxophones. The choir reaches a stunning
intensity and was described "harmonically engorged".
Worked and recorded with the great Max Roach for
over 20 years Odean's notable musical collaborations
include: John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan,
McCoy Tyner and many others. Odean Pope will perform
at Baalbek with his All Star Group "Odean's
list": Eddie Henderson (trumpet), David Weiss
(trumpet), Terrence R. Brown (tenor saxophone),
Joseph Sudler (baritone sax), George Burton (piano),
Lee Smith (bass), Jeff "Tain" Watts (drums)
and special guest star James Carter (tenor saxophone).

CELEBRATING CHOPIN'S BICENTENARY
The Courtyard of the Two Temples
The Orkiestra Sinfonietta Cracovia ranks among the
leading Polish and European orchestras. The 68 musicians
performing on stage will be conducted by the great
composer Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki who was granted
in 1960 a trophy from European countries for his
avant-garde composition Threnody to the Victims
of Hiroshima for string orchestra. This success
was followed by acclaim for his choral St. Luke
Passion that was later played in Baalbek in 1971.
He has also won prestigious awards including Grammy
Awards in 1987,1998 and 2001, as well as the Grawemeyer
Award for Music Composition in 1992.
In
commemoration of Chopin's bicentenary birthday and
for a unique night, Maestro Penderecki will be accompanied
by piano soloist Krzysztof Jablonski and cello soloist
Rafal Kwiatkowski. The program will feature:
Beethoven:
Egmont overture
Penderecki: Viola concerto transcribed for cello
with cello soloist Rafal Kwiatkowski
Chopin: Piano concerto no 1 in E minor op. 11 with
piano soloist Krzysztof Jablonski

A BALLET PERFORMANCE OF "ANNA KARENINA"

Noted by the New York Times as today’s “Most Successful
Russian Choreographer”, Boris Eifman is one of the
major figures in modern ballet. After having garnered
significant awards and performed at the most prestigious
theatres in the world (Marinsky Theatre, Théâtre
des Champs Elysées, New York City Center,…),
Boris Eifman Ballet Theatre will present at Baalbeck
stage Anna Karenina featuring 56 exceptional dancers
who will give an outstanding performance on Piotr
Tchaikowsky's music.

Naseer
Shamma is today one of the most esteemed and prolific
oud musicians. Since he started his professional
career, he has been composing his own music, giving
concerts in various parts of the world and winning
a number of international awards and prizes. He
is the only musician to have constructed an eight-string
oud or lute following the manuscript of the famous
9th century music theorist Al-Farabi. Naseer Shamma
will perform at the Baalbeck International Festival
with the House of Oud Orchestra (30 musicians) for
one unforgettable night.

people. This musical concentrates on the conflict
between Eastern and Western music.
So where does the problem lie and is there a solution?
The main plot, music composition, and main roles
are by Melhem Barakat and Ghassan Rahbani. Script,
direction, and production by Ghassan Rahbani
Ranya El Hajj with the collaboration of Pierre Chamoun
will be on stage accompanied by 100 artists; actors
