The
Municipal Cultural Center in Jbeil honored the artist Samaan Samaan
in an exhibition on the 5th of April 2010.
On the day of opening,
the artist's daughter, Mrs. Nuhad Samaan-Hage said:
I would like to take
the opportunity to talk about my father, one time with sadness for
his suffering in his last days and the loss of my brother Jean,
and another with great pride of his various culture, for he was
a teacher, an artist, and an honest trader with political thought
and developmental opinions for his city.
I believe that Samaan's
ability of expression is his main characteristic that made him a
knowledgeable and special person.
A humble man, who preferred
human qualities more than appearances, inspired us to respect people
for their human traits.
Last, but not least,
we would like to give special thanks to the one who thought about
honoring Samaan, the creative artist, who is always trying to give
Byblos, the Alphabet City, its natural and glorious role in cultural
and developmental aspects. Dr. Joseph Antoine Chami, and all the
members of the Municipal Council, and all the members of the Cultural
Council too, and of course to all who contributed in this activity.
I would like
to mention that, just because we didn't have enough room for all
his paintings, we only collected the ones in his five children's
houses, while the others with different topics and sizes are still
hanged in churches and convents and other houses.
نبذة مختصرة عن حياة الفنان سمعان سمعان 1908/1975
ولد في جبيل عام 1908، تلقى علومه في معهد الأخوة المريمين فتخرج منه
متفوقاً وعاد اليه أستاذاً. أتقن فن التصوير الفوتوغرافي وكان الوحيد
في جبيل آنذاك.
عام 1927 استعان به عالم الآثار الشهير موريس دونان مصوراً ومدوناً كل
ما اكتشف من آثار في قلعة جبيل وصيدا وصور.
كما اهتم بالشباب الجبيلي فساهم بتأسيس النوادي الثقافية والرياضية،
وتنشيط الأعمال المسرحية وكان المخرج لها. انتخب عضواً في مجلس بلدية
جبيل وكانت توكل اليه مهمات اجتماعية وثقافية وخطابية. ولكن الرسم ظل
شاغله الأكبر وهاجسه الأهم. مال الى المدرسة الكلاسيكية فرسم البورتريه
وخلد بذلك وجوه كثيرة، كما رسم لوحات للقديسين ما تزال فوق المذابح في
معظم كنائس وأديرة مدينة جبيل والمنطقة.
أما جبيل الرافلة بحلة التاريخ والحاضنة لأحيرام والأبجدية والمخلدة
بقداسة الشهيدة أكولينا، قد أحبها الفنان والهمته الكثير، فكان لها
لوحات عديدة تحكي عن آثارها الخالدة ومناظرها الخلابة.
اشتهر في ضروب الرسم كافة بتقنية عالية ولونية مدهشة ورهافة قل نظيرها.
سمعان سمعان فهم الحياة عطاء وسخاء وتضحية وآمن بالفن رسالة وبالكلمة
طريقاً للتفاعل والتآخي.
أما السياسة التي فهمها سبيلاً للخدمة العامة والتي سجل فيها مواقف
بارزة كانت وبالاً عليه ففجر محله التجاري مع المحترف عام 1975 اذ كان
حينذاك رئيس قسم جبيل الكتائبي فآلمه ذلك كثيراً وقضى جراء الحادث...
سمعان سمعان اسم ناصع في ذاكرة أبناء جبيل وابداعاته الحية ما تزال
تشهد للانسان والفنان معاً.
