A brief summary on arts in general and Bas Relief art in particular
From the beginning of their history, men have used signs to communicate with each other. Man developed this gift and started painting to express his feelings. This was the start of the symbolism art that has continued down to the present.
Hieroglyphics were developed by ancient populations, and this ledto the development of the letter that became phonetic and developed ultimately to a word, a sentence and then a book.
Painting was also used as method of expression and evolved into protrusions and sculptures on rocks used as a historiography of letters. These were completely by the ancient Mesopotamians , Ancient Egyptians, Semites, Phoenicians, Hittites, Acadians, etc, and are still being deciphered.
